We have received a bulletin issued by the Chevrolet Division of General Motors to their dealers, No. 89-238-6C concerning this problem. In this bulletin, Chevrolet advises their dealers “on some vehicles there may be a reduced clearance condition between the oil filter and the right drive axle inner boot clamp.” Chevrolet further indicates if this condition does exist, the vehicle should be repaired by replacing the right drive axle inner boot clamp with an “earless” clamp, part No. 7847740.

Since special clamp pliers are required in order to properly perform this repair, we do not recommend the clamp be replaced by anyone other than a certified GM Mechanic at an authorized Chevrolet dealership.

Tools needed: 8, 10, 11 (7/16?), 12, 13 (1/2?), 14 (9/16?), 15, 17, sockets and wrenches, a 5mm Allen wrench, Phillips and straight blade screwdrivers, and a telescoping magnet. You will also need a #30 Torx bit to remove the throttle body from the stock intake manifold. Most of these tools are available at your local hardware or auto parts store.

These conversion is requires the proper compliment of automotive tools, as well as a solid information of automotive technical and mechanical conditions. You should have sufficient experience with the vehicle type upon which the conversion is to be performed. Again, we suggest that you obtain a service manual for the vehicle. Follow the instruction step by step, and your installation will be trouble free. If in doubt, call! During this installation process, you will reuse some parts or hardware and not reinstall others. ……content summary………Models: 1999 Chevrolet and GMC Medium Duty Trucks w/ IMPCO LPG Fuel System Condition Some drivers and/or technicians may notice a severe surge at idle. The idle speed of the engine will fluctuate between approximately 300 and 1200 rpm. Normal idle speed is approximately 650 to 750 rpm. On certain vehicles, the idle surge will be intermittent. This condition will be more noticeable first thing in the morning after a cold start. Certain vehicles may also experience stalls, hesitation and overall poor driveability. Cause The Fuel Control Solenoid (FCS) sticks intermittently. Correction Cleaning the Fuel Control Solenoid (FCS) with carburetor / throttle body cleaner (non- chlorinated / O2 sensor safe) should fix the condition. Important Preliminary Checks: – Verify all engine electrical connections are secure. – Verify the PCV vacuum plug behind throttle body is in place. – Verify the hose connection between the throttle body to AF fuel metering module (elbow) is secure. Repair any of the above conditions as necessary. If no trouble is found, clean the FCS using the following procedure. 1. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the ¼” vacuum hose from the 90° fitting on top of the regulator directly above the stainless steel fuel outlet fitting. 2. Start the engine. CAUTION: Carburetor / throttle body cleaner is highly flammable. 3. Shoot about a two-second burst of carburetor / throttle body cleaner ( non- chlorinated / O2 sensor safe ) into the vacuum hose. 4. Allow the engine to idle for about ten seconds. Important: Operating the engine for more than 30 seconds with the vacuum hose disconnected may set a DTC and illuminate the CHECK ENGINE light. 5. Stop the engine and re-connect the vacuum hose. 6. If CHECK ENGINE light is illuminated, clear any DTCs.
